Botox Cosmetic is used for the treatment of dynamic facial wrinkles that help rejuvenate the face and lead to a more youthful look. The benefits of Botox Cosmetic are many, including the elimination of fine wrinkles caused by muscle movement of the face. Botox Cosmetic is one of the leading cosmetic treatments, perhaps second only to liposuction. Alternatives to Botox Cosmetic are Xeomin and Dysport. However, Botox Cosmetic continues to be the most popular botulinum toxin used to treat fine wrinkles such as crow's feet, forehead wrinkles and frown lines ("11 lines").

One of the most profound changes in plastic surgery is the increase in men undergoing Botox treatments for facial frowning and wrinkles.  Male Botox is becoming increasingly common as noted in a recent media segment describing the untoward effect of facial grimacing and facial lines on interpersonal relationships.  Men are more aware of the impact their facial wrinkles have on social and business relations and can achieve a more youthful and natural look through the use of Botox injections.  The most common areas for men to undergo Botox treatments include the Crow's feet on the side of the eyes, the glabella (mid-brow) and forehead areas.

Dr. Karamanoukian offers an executive Botox program for men who wish to undergo Botox treatment.  Please call our office for details as we can accomodate your Botox treatment during your lunch break or during normal business hours.

Brighten Your Outlook with BOTOX® Cosmetic - by Erich Armen, MD

If you’ve had enough of looking in the mirror and seeing a tired, old face looking back, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can help you bring back the youthful expression you once had.

You probably never thought about the toll that constant expressions throughout your life take on your face. Smiling and frowning can leave behind lines that may betray your true age to others.

What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic ?

There are many treatments used to obtain more youthful looking skin, but a lot of those treatments don’t address the muscles that cause the lines to become deeper. BOTOX® Cosmetic from botulinum toxin can restore a more youthful look to your face. BOTOX® Cosmetic  is marketed differently by Allergan than BOTOX® Therapeutic which is FDA approved to treat cervical dystonia, hyperhidrosis, migraine headaches, etc.

BOTOX® Cosmetic has a high potential to give you back a youthful face. The toxin blocks nerve impulses, and this disables the muscles that otherwise form frown lines between your eyebrows, wrinkles on your forehead or crow’s feet around your eyes.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is among the most popular of cosmetic procedures in the United States, according to Discovery Health. If you’re a Canadian patient seeking Botox injections, you can often find help from physicians on the American side of the US-Canada border.

BOTOX® Cosmetic can get rid of the wrinkles caused by facial movements over the years. It is helpful in correcting lip and neck imperfections, as well.

How Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic prevents muscle movements by blocking the nerve signals that tell muscles to contract. Once a muscle has been injected, it cannot contract. This will cause winkles to soften and relax. Although it works wonders on crow’s feet, laugh, and frown lines, it is not very effective on lines caused by gravity (skin laxity) or sun damage (fine wrinkles

What Happens in a BOTOX® Cosmetic Procedure?

A Botox injection takes just several minutes of your time, and it does not require any anesthesia. Botox is injected using a fine needle, only into specific areas of muscle. It causes minor discomfort. Within three days to a week, you’ll notice the most profound effects.

In order to get the full benefits of BOTOX® Cosmetic,  don’t drink alcohol for a week before treatment, and discontinue aspirin and other anti-inflammatories 5 days before your treatment. This helps in the reduction of bruising.  Some physicians also recommend a product called BruiseFighter Plus® to reduce the likelihood of bruising and help the bruise absorb faster.

How Long Do the Effects of Botox Injections Last?

BOTOX® Cosmetic effects usually last from 3 to six months. You’ll notice when the muscle actions return, since the wrinkles and lines reappear and need another treatment. BOTOX® Cosmetic trains your muscles to relax, so the look of wrinkles is less severe over time.

Does Botox Have Side Effects?

Some patients may have temporary bruising after their BOTOX® Cosmetic  treatments. Rarely, you may develop a headache, which will dissipate within one to two days. Eyelid drooping sometimes occurs in a few patients, and this resolves itself in about three weeks.

The movement of the Botox may cause eyelid drooping, so it’s best not to rub the skin on top of an area that has been treated for 12 hours after your injection. You should also not nap or sleep lying down for the first several hours, states Medicine Net.

Is BOTOX® Cosmetic Right for You?

Most people respond well to BOTOX® Cosmetic, but there are some instances in which you should not receive treatments. These include being pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have a neurological disorder, you should not receive Botox injections. In addition, Botox is not effective for all types of wrinkles, so be sure that your expectations are realistic and you discuss these with the physician before your treatments.

Will Your Insurance Pay for Your Botox Injections?

If you have a medical condition that necessitates the use of Botox injections, your health insurance policy may pay for the treatments. If you are having Botox injections for purely cosmetic reasons, it is unlikely that your health insurance will pay for them.
